La photographie dans Old Town: WiChiTa

yep. pretty much what the title says is what these are! These are my most recent photos, taken last week on a little date with my boyfriend!
Starting at the Keeper of the Plains...

i know this isn't a very awesome picture compositional wise...but the lights on the water were so pretty!

i just thought this looked really eerie

PHOTOS via North Carolina

These were taken this past summer on my family vacation to North Carolina!

I'm a tad obsessed with the macro function, just a warning.

butttt its so sweet when you capture that look at something up close, and the blurred focus in the background- it's like your seeing something for the first time!

"Wishing Well"
A little well was outside our cabin...hence la photo.

                                                             Bubbles!
"Birds and the Bees"
I edited this one as well, added a sephia tone, and the rounded edge affect in Picnik

edited this one in picnik as well, just dimmed the background and boosted the color

I found these flowers when we went on a walk that afternoon
or a family hike...
decided to do a lil photoshoot!
Edited this by adding sephia tone to it

enhanced the flowers colors on this one.

Mike's eye...

The rest of these are all nature shots!

tried to capture clear picture of bubbles floating...but i have to figure out how to change the shutter speed! didn't really work how i planned... :/

dRaWiNg oNe

These are all charcoal drawings. All of these were completed within the first semester  of my drawing 1 class at WSU! (Aug- Dec 2011)

"Still Life #3"
This was done with the subractive method. I smeared charcoal all over the sheet of paper and then erased out the highlights and went back in with charcoal to render the objects.

"Still Life #2"
This was my second still life that I worked with white conte and pastel to render the objects with the highlights first. I used a black sheet of paper to act as the darkest spots and just drew the highlights.

"Still Life #1"
This was the first life drawing Jodi made us do for our class. I used a blue tinted sheet of paper and white pastel and conte to render the objects. It was really tricky at first to work backwords, drawing the highlights first and letting the dark shadows only be the paper.

"Dancing Ballerina"
This was an assignment in Drawing 1. We had to capture, or imply movement within a figure either usuing erasing methods or a cubism approach. So I chose to take three ballerina positions and blend them together drawing out each position of the balletina to capture her movement throughout her turn.

Eh. the very last still life in the class that had to be completed within the class. I don't like it very much...
We we required to do 5 sketches a week- sometimes themed. And one week the theme was to draw a sheet, gestural and capture the fabric.
This is one of the sketches...obviously..

Figure Sketches

I loooovvvewee thi figure. As weird as this sounds I can't wait for figure drawing classes that I have to take! I don't know why I have always liked the figure, just something about it really gets me! Maybe it's because its so complex, yet its so sinple. Or maybe because no two figures are alike. Yet they are so lively and so hard to capture even when they are just sitting!

These two sketches were done my senior year of course! The first model is Vanessa. I experimented with pastels. Mrs. Werts wanted us to layer so there are multiple drawings underneath and then I brought the final one out with highlights and the darkest points using charcoal and pastel.
This is Nick sleeping I think? Maybe Bobby... thats the pose they picked to model in!
anyways I used India Ink for this one, no skecth underneath- just freehand the india ink painting method.

Charcoal Drawings, Narratives and Explorations

"Glass Case of Emotions"
This was an assignment my senior year, we had to work with glass. So I chose to incorporate my interest- the figure, or portraits. And I settled on a piece that narrated a scene of being trapped by your own emotions.

"Salazar"
This was a scene I photographed, and originally was using for my AP portfolio senior year in highschool.

This was also photographed and drawn for my senior year AP portfoilo.

"Passage of Time"
This assignment was to create a piece that showed time. And so I photgraphed myself in a clock and captured the relections. You can see me in the reflection and the clock appears on top.

"Little Sister Love"
I found this photograph and thought it would fit my thesis for my AP porfolio perfectly. Plus it always makes me laugh. We were in the car on our way to florida, and she was getting cranky and I was messing with her and when I pulled out my camera this is what I got.

"Self Portrait"
Yep. This is me, freshman year. My friend took this of me and I decided to draw it as pratice.

"Mike's Head"
I drew this for when I was focusing on candid images of people for my AP Portfolio.

"Nickle"
Practicing charcoal drawings..
and getting use t othat awkward feeling of drawing other people when they don't know it...
and drawing other people when they happen to be one of your ex's...awkwarrdddd.

This is my first ever charcoal drawing, or narration. I set up the scene myself, and wanted to experiment with charcoal. I always had been a realistic artist and I had seen so many amazing charcoal pieces and I wanted to try!!! So this is what got me started in loving the use of charcoal and the process of photographing a scene and making it come alive.

"Oh la la"
Yep. This is me, ona bus to a french field trip- and I drew it. I know that lighting is bad but that is how the picture is. I drew this because I thought my concentration for my AP Portfolio was going to be "candid images"

All of these were done my senior year of highschool, back in 2011. They were all done in CHARCOAL, my favorite means of drawing as of now. And some were assignments and others were done in hopes of using for my concentration for the AP Portfolio as I already said in some descriptions.
I am into realisim, or photorealism. Even though it is a long process, and mine arn't exactly accurate, I like to represent things how people would see them, but with my own style. Allowing them to notice things they wouldn't normally notice on a first glance at a person. This is what I have discovered that I like most about doing portraits: I learn so much, and no person is alike in the way thay they smile, or the creases when their eyes squint or their lips curve!
I like to create narratives in the scenes I set up and photograph. I then have mini photoshoots sometimes, playing with the lighting and the models in ways that I know would translate well when I draw the pictures out.
I kinda misplaced my artist statement that I had for my AP Portfolio...which isn't good I realize this...;) but when I find it I'll post in a comment or something because It might affect the way you view these pieces!!

Abstracted Object Design

this is my abstracted image- "guitar"- design.
My dad loves music, and playing the guitar. He always taught me about bands, and music and how to play the guitar. And so when i think of guitars I always think of it as my dads thing. Sooooo i picked a guitar because it's a connection me and my dad share :)

these are my final prelim sketches for our assignment to create an abstract piece with an object.
my object is a guitar.

Japanese Tea Ceremony

This is my design influenced by the Asian Culture.
I picked the japanese tea ceremony to study and create a design about.
I looked at the intricate process of the tea ceremony, and all of the rituals and utensils used within the ceremony. However I decided to go with a more abstract design in order to focus more on the mediative and cultural experience withing the tea ceremony that is intended each time it is performed. One is supposed to appreciate each aspect of the tea ceremony, the spoons, cups bowls, art of the walls. EVERYTHING. The idea: "Chanoyu" is the main focus. It is to appreciate the aesthetic awakening of the performance of the ceremony as well as making and serving the tea.
I was inspired by the tapestries that hang in the tea garden rooms and modeled my design to posses this format while addressing the garden like path and strict lines like the ritual of the ceremony.
